Strontianite after Calcite, Rosiclare Level, Cross-Cut Orebody, Ozark-Mahoning Company Minerva #1 Mine, Southern Illinois Miniature 4 x 4 x 4 cm $250.
One pocket find from advance mining in 1990. The original form of the calcite crystal is preserved as a gray cast (lower photo) that shows scalenohedral symmetry with the center of the cast full of acicular sprays of strontianite. There are numerous white barite crystals on the outside of the calcite which may in fact be celestite (never confirmed as barium or strontium sulfate). Rare and an excellent specimen in very excellent condition. Rick & Deanna Russell Collection.
