The best location in Romania for siderite pseudomorphs is without question the Gheturi Mine in Satu Mare. I have acquired single rhombs over 35 cm on edge in specimens grouped up to 120 cm across and hundreds of very fine smaller specimens in a wide variety of associations. This piece is a classic example of calcite rhombs faithfully replaced by light brown siderite. The rhombs are inter-grown with prismatic quartz and with an association with chalcopyrite. The crystals are well separated and undamaged. Mined c. 2000.
