Celestite is comparatively rare from the southern Illinois Fluorspar District. Prior to the opening of the Annabel Lee Mine in 1985 the number of documented celestite specimens likely numbered less than 25. The bulk of those came from a rare occurrence in the Barnett Mine in the 1970s. However, in 1985, on the Lower-Rosiclare Level, a sensational find of blue celestite was recovered and further fantastic pockets turned up on the Sub-Rosiclare level. This piece is from the significant finds from the Sub-Rosiclare Level and shows the characteristic two-phase crystallization and sponge-like matrix. In top condition and a rich, fine miniature from the ore body. Mined circa 1985-1986. ex; Ernie Collins Collection (acquired in district at time of production) ex; Roy Smith Collection #M1297; sold to Ross Lillie August 2013.
