Pseudomorphs from the Southern Illinois Fluorspar District are exceptionally rare. Fantastic barite replacements of witherite occur in the Minerva #1 Mine and there are a few localities for calcite casts after barite but the Annabel Lee Mine produced the finest examples of barite after celestite from all of the mines. A series of pockets were found from 1987-1988 that produced not only superlative celestite but also top quality pseudomorphs. This piece is from mining in January 1988 and shows the classic 'snow on the roof' barite druse on calcite as well as sharp barite pseudomorphs after prismatic celestite. Nice fluorite matrix and association with calcite. In excellent condition. Betty Kalaskie Collection #462.
