Calcite on Fluorite, Bethel Level Annabel Lee Mine, Ozark-Mahoning Company, Harris Creek District, Southern Illinois, Mined c. 1986-1988, Tolonen Collection, Medium Cabinet 6.5 x 12.0 x 12.5 cm, $2500. Online 1/13.
Rich lemon yellow fluorite xls, to approx 5.5. cm on edge, with chalcopyrite inclusions and capped with a preferential druse of acicular calcite. The Bethel Level is arguably the prettiest level in the district but notoriously difficult to collect specimens from as the pockets tend to be very tight. As such, specimens are really rare in terms of sheer numbers. This specimen is from advance mining ca. late 1980s- probably 1986-1989. The calcites are not nearly perfect, unfortunately, with many showing cleaves but the fluorite is in great condition. Tolonen collection. Entered into Ross Lillie collection database system as RCL2529.
